These long slender bodied snakes are widespread in tropical rainforests in South
America and Central America.
Like all boas it is non-venomous and kills its prey by constriction. Adults can reach
lengths of up to 6 feet but only average about 2 inches in diameter.
They are known for their iridescent/ holographic sheen caused by structural coloration. They are a combination of orange, brown, black and red in coloration
Rainbow boas are semi arboreal. They live in trees and on the ground.
They are active both day and night. When hunting at night they use their heat pits to sense prey but use their keen vision when hunting during the day.
Females are larger than males.
The hiss very loudly when threatened to ward off predators
They have poor eyesight but can feel vibrations in the environment to sense what is
happening around them
