Like some of their cousins they are often mistaken for the venomous coral snake.

They reach 49 inches long as adults and live up to 10 years.
They will bite if they feel threatened but otherwise are very calm when handled.

They kill their prey by constriction and feed on mice rats, frogs, small lizards and even
other snakes.
